BBC SPORT Crowned Best User Experience of 2014 at UXUK Awards

Honoured for delivering the Best User Experience overall, BBC Sport joined a host of winners revealed last night at the second User Experience UK Awards during a prestigious event held at Microsoft’s Cardinal Place Auditorium in London.

Founded to recognise the most innovative and exceptional cases of user experience and user centred design, the UXUK Awards ceremony welcomed Richard Banks – Principal Design Manager at Microsoft – to deliver a fascinating talk entitled, ‘Digital possession in a mobile and cloud first world’.

Attracting high profile industry support and involvement, the UXUK Awards offers teams the opportunity to promote major achievements and celebrate success. The winners in each category underwent rigorous analysis by the judging panel and all entries were reviewed and deliberated upon by a group of UX specialists and digital experts.

“Those shortlisted and the eventual winners of what were hotly-contested categories can congratulate themselves for producing entries of the highest calibre. The entries went through a meticulous judging process and it took my fellow judges and I a great deal of time to make our final decisions”, explained Dr Jon Dodd, CEO of Bunnyfoot and moderator of the judging panel.

Making the most of the celebration were brands including Nationwide, who netted the top spot in the Best Innovation category; BBC Sport, which came top of the Best Entertainment category; Wahoo for WaterAid, which seized Best Not for Profit; Tesco ‘Eat Happy’ who took home Best Education or Learning Experience, my dlc who won Best Transactional Experience; Best Information Experience went to Hargreaves Lansdown; Royal Navy sailed away with Best Public Sector; Best Effect on Business Goals was impressively won by Great Rail Journeys. Our two new categories were Best Student Project collected by Jack Holmes from Kingston University and the Microsoft sponsored category of Best Windows Phone App was won by ITV.

Due to the high calibre of entries, the judges spoke of having to go to a vote in order to crown BBC Sport as the overall Best User Experience for 2014.

Others seen to be enjoying the entertainment on the night included teams from UXPA UK, British Gas, The Gazette, Barclays, Lonely Planet, Dulux and many more.

Boasting a splendid turn-out, a top-rated keynote speaker, and entries of the highest calibre, the evident success of the second UXUK Awards confirms the event as the highlight of the UX industry calendar.

Dodd concluded:

‘Judging by the comments we’ve received, it’s safe to say that the UXUK Awards ceremony at Microsoft’s Cardinal Place venue, was a fantastic evening enjoyed by all. Celebrating those leading the field in terms of creating outstanding user experiences here in the UK, the UXUK Awards has uncovered some seriously impressive examples, reaffirming our belief that the UK continues to be a hub for UX innovation.

“The evening itself was the culmination of a lot of very hard work and generosity and we thank everyone for their support. Here’s to next year’s awards!”
